When we introduced the Storage VPS, we didn’t have high expectations for this product. We couldn’t foresee the popularity of high-capacity storage servers.
However, a number of customers have been abusing the service for media streaming and transcoding, peer-to-peer file sharing or other I/O-heavy activities. This not only degrades the performance of the Storage VPS for everyone, it also violates our recently updated Terms of Service.
The new section in the ToS is as follows:
- Customer must note that the Storage VPS does not provide the performance of Fourplex’s Ryzen VPS plans, or other Performance VPS plans from competitors, as the Storage VPS is designed for high disk capacity rather than high performance due to the use of mechanical hard drives instead of SSDs.
- Customer must not:
- Use the Storage VPS for media streaming or transcoding (i.e. Jellyfin/Plex), BitTorrent or any “intensive” activities.
- Use continuous CPU, Disk I/O, or Bandwidth activity on the Storage VPS.
- Fourplex reserves the right to throttle CPU, I/O or Bandwidth activity, or suspend a Customer’s account should Customer abuse the resources.
- For customers who subscribed to a Storage VPS before December 12, 2025, the above points apply by December 31, 2025.
In short:
- Storage VPS plans cannot be used for media streaming/transcoding (i.e. Plex servers), BitTorrent “seedboxes” or 24/7 usage.
- Users caught abusing Storage VPS resources may be throttled.
- For customers who got a Storage VPS before December 12, 2025, we will give a grace period until December 31 to transition off these activities.
We know this might be difficult for some of our customers, but a growing number of customers have complained about poor performance on the Storage VPS which is why we are making this change.
We hope to continue to provide you all with high-quality services going forward.
